Kids’ artwork: how to reduce waste, but not creativity

I don’t know about you but I usually have little masterpieces coming out my ears. I love having children who love to create, but I often am amazed at much paper gets recycled.

A lot of our art gets given away or digitally preserved. But lately I’ve been thinking more and more about cutting down on the paper waste to begin with.

Eating local without putting the miles on

During the month of August we’ve begun trying to eat only locally grown foods, and I very quickly realized how much I was going to miss our supermarkets. It seemed that I was in the van every couple of days looking for for food.

It’s such a foreign thing to have to drive multiple places while buying groceries when I’m used to finding everything I need from just one store. And I can even buy paint and clothes and tools there too.

One week in to our Eat Local challenge and I began thinking that we were going to have to win the lotto to fund my gas tank. But after two weeks now, I’ve finally found a few tips that have drastically reduced both my time spent and miles driven.

Savoring summer

Today I mentioned on our Facebook page that my post was running late because we were savoring summer around these parts. Next week we start homeschool (kindergarten) with Gigi so this is technically our last week of summer.

Between that, visiting with friends and packing up our house, today’s blog post didn’t quite make it in time for today. So I’ll keep working on it for next time and in the meantime I’ll leave you with a glimpse into the waning days of summer as we enjoy as much of this summer weather and long, sunny days as we can.
