Just a regular ol’ day, here in the Bennett house, as photographed (almost) on the hour...
Today (yesterday) is the first day of the current session of the Hello Mornings challenge. I successfully make it out of bed and get twenty minutes to myself before the kids wake up: score! Tea is quieter than coffee, so that’s how I choose my poison today.
The little ones join me at the table as I get my day started, while David starts cookin’ up some eggs.
I squeeze in a little last-minute blogging while I still have help from Daddy. He takes off for work shortly thereafter.
Gigi slept in, so we finally get some homeschooling started around nine. It’s a daily struggle to keep the little ones occupied, but we’re making it through, day by day.
I heat up my green tea, again.
I read to Gigi (5.5) and Brody (2.5) on the couch amidst Hallee (1.5)’s crying (she’s not big on books yet). After a quick snack of grapes and cinnamon toast, Gigi and I create a map of our neighborhood while Brody and Hallee try to color.
Brody and Gigi decorate celery with raisins while I make them all quesadillas. Add to that some blood oranges and they’ve got lunch. I cram my mouth with the leftover celery and peanut butter, deciding to wait on a real lunch until later, when things are a bit more peaceful.
Kids are playing house (Brody always wants to be the dog); Hallee is happily getting in the middle of it all.
My aunt stops by on her way through town for an impromptu visit, so naps are delayed as kiddos get to show off our new house and play with a couple of new toys she brought. When they leave, I toss the cloth diapers into the washing machine.
Brody and Hallee are down for naps, Gigi listens to a few audio stories on my bed while I eat my second “lunch,” nachos made from (the best) local chips and salsa. Yum.
Gigi comes back downstairs and I help her make a bookmark from her devotional/activity book. My mom stops by for a few minutes and we pick out a neutral fabric to go with my Alison Glass prints for a new quilt for my bed.
I read Gigi a chapter of Farmer Boy while I sip on a delicious latte, my afternoon pick-me-up.
Gigi gets to watch her new favorite show, The Fresh Beat Band, while I tackle a bit of email and start composing a blog post. When Hallee wakes up, she and Gigi watch a bit of Yo-Gabba-Gabba.
Brody wakes up and joins the girls.
Dinner takes an exciting turn when I decide to add popcorn to our leftovers meal. Inspired by SouleMama and my friend Mandi, we try popping it on the stove for the first time ever. Squeals of delight ensue when the kernels start bouncing and popping all around.
Over dinner, we compile a list of “family date night” ideas, as per Gigi’s request.
After we eat, we take a spontaneous walk to 7-11 to return a RedBox DVD and get a tiny chocolate treat. We are all bundled up because to these Californians, it’s cold out.
Jammies get put on, diapers get hung up, dishes get washed, stories are read, songs are sung, and kids head to bed.
David hangs a few recently-painted cabinet doors in our kitchen and then plays a video game while I type up this post. I might have to just add the photos in the morning though because my dessert and veg-out time are calling my name.
It’s been a good day despite the craziness of life. Tomorrow Gigi will be off to school for the day so I’ll hope for a peaceful naptime where I can get a little creative– do some writing and maybe even start one of the projects on my to-do list.
But for now, ice cream and Downton Abby with mi amor it is.
Thanks for checking out my day in the life! Does my day have any similarites with yours? Any questions about mine?
I’ll be linking up with Simply Rebekah this week.
