From the archives: homemade strawberry freezer jam

Editor’s note: I’ve been home-bound with restless, unwell little ones for the last two days. We woke up Wednesday morning, planning to surprise our almost five-year old daughter with a trip to Disneyland, and instead found her sick with a stomach bug. Suffice it to say, my week has not gone as planned.

As I was been dreaming of enjoying the spring outdoors, I recalled this post from (hard to believe) two years ago. Our editor-at-the-time, Katie Fox, shared this delicious recipe with us– I’ve made it myself, so I know! Looking for a Mother’s Day treat? This jam would be perfect. Enjoy! ~Nicole

I spent Mother’s Day weekend up to my elbows in strawberries. On Saturday, our family went out to a local you-pick berry farm and spent a couple of hours harvesting the sweetest, freshest, most delicious strawberries that I’ve tasted in a long time. I wanted to get enough berries to make strawberry jam and strawberry fruit leather, and still have enough left over to freeze for smoothies.

Yeast infections are pretty common to the female experience.  We all have yeast inside of us, both “good” and “bad”, but there are times that things can get unbalanced, and the “bad” yeast takes over.  It’s never pleasant, but it doesn’t have to mean that we immediately reach for over-the-counter medical concoctions or prescription pills. A New Season for Simple Organic

It seems unbelievable to me that it has already been ten months since Simple Organic launched last February.

I still remember when, in the summer of 2009, Tsh asked me to consider serving as editor of a new blog she was planning to launch under the umbrella of Simple Living Media. Along with Simple Homeschool and Simple Bites, she hoped that Simple Organic would join alongside Simple Kids and Simple Mom to become a blog network dedicated to helping people pursue simplicity in their lives.

I was surprised and honored beyond belief. For a number of years now, I have been passionate about the subject matter that we cover here at Simple Organic: sustainable living, natural parenting, health and nutrition, and green living in all its forms.

To have a platform like Simple Organic where I can share the things I’ve learned, build a community of like-minded folks, and continue to learn and grow because of that very community has been a truly amazing journey.

But like all journeys do, this one has come to an end for me. For a number of months now, I have been sensing that it is time for me to step down from the leadership of Simple Organic.
