Homemade body butter for dry skin

DIY Body Butter

Written by Stacy Karen of A Delightful Home.

In winter it is typical for skin to dry out and need extra moisture. Spending so much time inside with heated air can really take it’s toll.

Besides drinking more water, applying body butter is a great way to restore moisture and sooth dry skin.

Plus, it’s super easy to make.

Making body butter involves nothing more than measuring, melting and pouring. (I’m pretty sure I say this almost every time I post a tutorial for homemade skin care products. But it’s just so easy! I wish everyone knew how simple was to create natural skin care at home.)

The ingredients in this recipe create a heavy cream that is nourishing to the skin. It is intended for use on the body and not the face.

Homemade foaming facial cleanser

Written by contributor Stephanie Langford of Keeper of the Home

When I clean my face, I want something that leaves it clean and soft, but I”m very leery of using conventional products that contain harsh chemicals.

I”ve been a fan of the Oil Cleansing method for a long time, but I have just one issue with it. I”m a lazy face washer. At the end of a long day, I buck at the idea of spending 4-5 minutes going through the process of getting my water really hot, steaming my face with the washcloths, and all that the method entails. I will say that it does a fabulous job, and so I wish I was more committed to it, but I”m just not.

Looking for something new, I tried a few foaming facial cleansers, made with very natural and pure ingredients. As soon as my skin adjusted, this seemed like the winning option for me.

However, I have this hang-up about paying $20-$30 for a bottle of facial cleanser, which is generally what it costs for one made with ingredients that I approve of. Since I love making homemade goodness of all kinds, my hope was that it wouldn”t be too difficult to mimic these cleansers and make my own, and guess what? It wasn”t!

The wonders of raw honey

Written by contributor Krissa Jeldy of More Than Mundane.

One of the things I always keep well stocked in my home is raw honey. Of course I use honey all the time in the kitchen, but I’ve also found many other uses for honey in our home.

That’s why, when the local U-pick blueberry farm opened up this Spring and I remembered enjoying the couple of containers of honey I had picked up the year before (and run out of far too soon,) I decided to stock up. A good price on local, raw honey? I’m in!

The girls at the counter seemed surprised by my request for so much honey and asked me what in the world I used all the honey for, and all I could think was, “Everything! What don’t I use it for?” I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t completely normal to be buying so much honey!

Honey not only is a natural sweetener and a delicious addition to baked goods and other dishes, but it also has many other amazing qualities as well. Here are a few benefits of raw honey:

  • Natural humectant, drawing moisture from the air, making it wonderful for your face and hair.
  • Antibacterial, making it great for minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.
  • Good source of antioxidants.
  • Good source of carbohydrates, providing a natural energy boost.
