Day 3: Sewing books on my shelf, Part 1

Today is Day 3 of 31 Days of Sewing School.

When it comes to sewing, you can never be too inspired. Before we actually get our tools and fabric out, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite sewing books.

There are so many great print resources, full of helpful tips, tutorials and patterns, and my humble collection will merely be scratching the surface. But nonetheless, if you are looking for some reading material to get your sewing-mind inspired, this list will be a good starting point.

You can click the photo to view the book on Amazon.

These are affiliate links, but all of these books sit on my shelf and were either gifts or books I bought myself. I share them with you today for the simple reason that I enjoy them. :)

Sew Liberated by Meg McElwee

I’ll share more favorites with you tomorrow.

If you’re a sewista, do you have a favorite sewing book?

you named all my faves too! I also love all the tutorials on Sew Mama Sew for their Handmade Holidays…such a great internet collection of ideas.

  2. Rachel says:

Have you heard of Improv Sewing? It’s a book for beginners and imperfectionists. Pretty neat.

  3. Andrea H says:

I love all of those too! Another one of my favorites is Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross. (I also second how awesome the free tutorials are on Sew Mama Sew.)

  4. Stacy says:

I have a few of those and want to own the rest!

  5. Lynn says:

I love sewing books! And all the ones you mentioned look great. I really like “Lotta Jansdotter’s Simple Sewing”. Beautiful pictures and fairly simple projects.

  6. KC says:

So… probably too late, but would it be possible to get a “why” or some explanation of what makes each of these books stand out to you? I like recommendations, but “this book is great for sparking creativity in embellishing” or “this is great for the fundamentals of sewing” or “I learned so much about fit and fabric choice from this book” would be really useful. (although reading the Amazon reviews would probably help with that… perhaps, never mind?)

    • Nicole says:

I thought about that, but honestly I just knew I wouldn’t have time during 31 days (plus I didn’t want to make the posts too long), but I’d be happy to elaborate in the future and go into a little bit more detailed reviews. In the meantime, I’m sure the amazon reviews would be helpful though!
