This month’s Pinterest to Real Life post was postponed until today due to our fabulous Queen for a Day Giveaway.
I tried a lot of new recipes this month that I found via Pinterest. Hopefully the next couple of months will bring about some real-life craftiness but for April I spent most of my applied-inspiration-time in the kitchen.
Experimenting with Green Tea
Ever since I’ve started adding more green tea into my diet for its anti-inflammatory properties, I’ve wanted to find creative ways to use it. I like drinking it, but thanks to the wonders of matcha powder, there is so much more to do with it. Here’s what I tried.
- Green tea ice cream ~ deliciously rich and creamy. Might I suggest pairing this with a chocolate sauce or chocolate ice cream? mmmm…..
- Green tea lemon cupcakes ~ a little dense but loved the lemon flavor. As for the frosting, I used half the match and it was still strong- maybe I bought a particularly strong brand? All that to say, I probably won’t make these again, despite how pretty they came out (pictured above).
- Green tea coconut drink ~ I made a modified version of this, and it was tasty, but again, a bit strong.
- Next green tea experiment (hopefully tonight!): (Vegan) vanilla green tea tapioca pudding ~ I’ll be using non-vegan gelatin in mine but I am going to try the coconut milk.
This spring salad was amazingly simple and delicious. We packed it up and took it to the beach for a picnic and I felt like I could have eaten all of it myself (maybe) because it was so good. In fact, I’m making it again tonight!
For our Easter potluck with friends, I made the Pioneer Woman’s crash hot potatoes– YUM. The leftovers went in to a loaded baked potato soup. Double YUM.
I’ve been on a serious Joy the Baker kick (again) ever since I got her cookbook. These kale quinoa cakes were on her blog recently and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them. The whole family (aside from the picky toddler) really enjoyed them. I will definitely be making them again!
Also amazing: peanut butter muffins (no flour or sugar) with Nutella filling. You’re going to want to eat those right after they come out of the oven– trust me on this one.
I’m planning a strawberries ‘n’ cream, Wimbledon-esque party for Hallee’s first birthday which is coming up in a month (!!). So I started a brand-new party planning board and I’m going to be on the lookout for cute ideas, like saving up Frappuccino jars to reuse as milk bottles.
