Today I am so excited to be able to bring you this giveaway from Stephanie Langford, Simple Organic contributor, and the woman behind Keeper of the Home. Stephanie has just released her second book, entitled Real Food on a Real Budget, and wow – it is a true goldmine.
I know that many of us want to eat healthier diets, full of whole, real foods and more organic and local foods, but the costs of eating this way are typically quite high. My family’s food budget is limited, as yours probably is, too. Each month, I find myself compromising in various ways, due to limited financial resources.
However, I have learned so much from reading Real Food on a Real Budget. Stephanie’s monthly food budget for her family of five is just $400, yet she purchases fresh milk, local pastured eggs, grass-fed beef, organic fruits and veggies, and natural skin and body care products. Are you intrigued yet?
If you want to learn more about how to feed your family real food within the constraints of a real budget, you need this book. If you are daunted by the seemingly high costs of switching to a real food diet, you need this book. If you can’t seem to stretch your food budget far enough each month, you need this book.
Here’s what you’ll find in Real Food on a Real Budget: chapters on budgeting, meal planning, the best real food sources, how to compare prices, buying in bulk, seasonal eating, preserving, and much, much more. It truly is a wealth of information, compiled from over six years of research and experience.

Although I would love to glean a lot of info from this book, how to establish a realistic food budget for your unique family, and actually stick to it, is my first goal!
I am subscribed to the RSS of both Keeper at Home and Simple Organic.

I’d love to learn more about buying food in bulk and about preserving fresh food!
I would like to learn “How to find places to buy whole and traditional foods wherever you live and compare prices so that you know you’re getting the absolute best deals.” It is difficult to find good, healthy foods in my southern town.
I most interested in “Why you should purchase your foods seasonally and locally, preserve them for cheaper year-round eats, and even grow them yourself.”
I’m already a subscriber to both via google reader!
This book looks fantastic – every single one of those “what you can expect” points talks to me, so I can’t really pick a single one. Save money? Yes, please! Actually stick to a food budget? I’ve never been able to, so yes! Tips? I love tips!

I am most interested in how you fit making food from scratch into a busy busy life. And of course how to budget for the foods in a better manner than I am doing now. I find we buy a lot of things that don’t get eaten and end up spoiling before we get to them. that bums me out.
I’ve become extremely conscious in regards to the food my family purchases and consumes in order to stay up and running along with remaining healthy in such a fast paced environment and society. However, in my opinion more important that keeping ourselves healthy is keeping the planet healthy by supporting forms of sustainable agriculture and local growers. From the excerpt Langford has put forth, I think she may have hit this right on the head.

Well, I would really learn to love all of it! But at the top of my list would be “How to provide better nutrition and cost effectiveness through a meal planning method that suits you best.”
Oh, I’d love to win! I really want to buy more organic foods for our growing family, but I haven’t figured out how to do it cost effectively. (Who knew little people would eat so much produce?!) It sounds like this book could be the answer to establishing a budget for our unique family!
And I subscribe to both Keeper of the Home and Simple Organic in a reader…
I would love to learn how to stick to my budget and how to afford the real, healthy foods, instead of cheap junk food. Health is so important, but so is living within our means. And I need help with both.
Thanks for doing the giveaway!
I would love to read how to save money while feeding my family heathlier.

I would love to learn more about Stephanie’s first bullet “How to shave literally hundreds and potentially even thousands off of your grocery expenses every year, without compromising on what you buy!”
I would like to learn more about “Why, what and how to buy in bulk and what to do with all that food!” Especially grains, cooking ingredients, and proteins.
I’d like to learn to plan our meals more effectively to save money and nutrition! Thanks for the chance!
I am most interested in the advice about buying in bulk and in how to find the best real food sources at the best prices. Would love to win this book!
While the whole list of things I could learn interests me, what jumped out at me was being able to plan meals and find time to cook from scratch! I start out with good intentions on both but have a hard time following through.

I’m shocked. $400 a month in groceries for a family of 5? I spend $200 a week to feed our family of 5, as natural and organic as possible, and that never seems to be enough. Is there something I’m missing?
I’m most excited about “which foods are both nutrient-dense, cost-effective, and how to work your diet around them.” I already try to budget as best I can, but I tend to do it by recipe instead of by ingredient if that makes sense. Would love to pay more attention to the basics first and could def use some tips there. Thanks!

I subscribe to both Keeper of the Home and Simple Organic.
I would love to read this book! I’m excited about all of it, but perhaps the most useful to me right now would be how to find money to buy organic and how to find time to cook from scratch all the time – with a toddler as a WAHM.
Sounds like a great book. My fav : How to shave literally hundreds and potentially even thousands off of your grocery expenses every year, without compromising on what you buy!
I’d love to learn more about cost effective and nutrient dense foods! Something to feed all the men and boys hanging around my house!
I would love to learn how to eat good, whole food on the cheap. I’ve been trying to be more health conscious as well as more enviromentally responsible in my food choices but it’s very hard when you have a limited income. I think this book would be perfect for me.
