Christmas is still a few days away, but I’m already feeling like I’ve indulged in a few too many holiday sweets. There’s just something about the holidays though that makes me want to do more baking… and keep indulging! Thankfully, I now have just the resource to provide me with some sweet recipes that aren’t going to give me a sugar high… and crash.
Our very own contributor Katie Kimball, has written a new eBook called Smart Sweets, a cookbook full of desserts that are healthier than your standard sweet. I always find that it helps to indulge a bit rather than restrict all goodies and then end up binging later (or is that just me?).
In Katie’s own words, she wrote this book because, well, desserts are fun. “I say it’s better to indulge in a wiser dessert than fall completely off the wagon and cavort with Sara Lee or Betty Crocker,” she says. Amen, sister.
Read on to learn more about Smart Sweets and see how you can win a copy.
Forget just the benefit of being healthy, Katie’s dessert lineup appears downright sinful–there are so many delicious-sounding recipes I can’t wait to try. I love how she always comments on her recipes with pointers, tips and variations, too.
It sure looks like most if not all of these recipes would please the not-so-health-conscious crowd as well, which is always a plus.
Just today I whipped up a batch of her Peanut Butter Kisses (pictured at top of post). Not only were they easy to make but these are a great, raw treat that I’d be happy to give my kids when they’re on the lookout for something sweet.
I added some grain-sweetened chocolate chips to them, because I can’t resist a peanut-butter-and-chocolate combo, and they were delicious! The grain-sweetened chocolate chips taste, well, grain-sweetened but mixed into the PB Kisses, I could hardly tell the difference– honestly!

Recipes I’d like to try? The coconut macaroons, the whole wheat chocolate chip cookies, and the chocolate syrup. It’s terrible, but I do still use Hershey’s syrup…I am working on finding a good syrup recipe. This could just be the one!

Thanks for the entries.

My guilty pleasure is an Indian recipe called ‘Carrot Pudding’! It is luxurious in sweets and milk and cream and thus… very very high in calories. But I LOVE it.
After browsing the list, I can say I would love to have Cocunutty White Cake.

Guilty pleasure? Anything with peanut butter it (especially the bad kind, Jif, which is crack to me). I’m a fan of a good ol’ chocolate chip cookie too.
I would like the make the whole wheat chocolate chip cookies. To compare them to traditional ones of course!

Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. Yup – I love ‘em
Because my diet is so restrictive now my guilty pleasure is a slice of coconut bread, toasted with warmed strawberries mashed on top. When I’m needing a little something extra I grate some cocoa butter on top. Mmmmm.
I’ve been craving peanut butter and Katie has peanut butter kisses that sound delish.
I LIKE both sites on FB.
My guilty pleasure? Anything chocolate! Or a really good cheescake.
And because Reeses is my guilty pleasure, I will absolutely make the Peanut Butter bars with a few chocolate chips thrown in. That should help with that craving!

Icelandic vinetarta… I’m going to try to make it myself this year instead of relying on my Mom. Could be interesting….
