Welcome back to Simple Organic!
If this is your first time here, make sure you read yesterday’s post to learn all about Simple Organic, meet the contributors, and see what we have in store for the upcoming months. To celebrate the launch of Simple Organic and the Simple Living Media network, we have an awesome giveaway today for one lucky reader of each SLM blog. Yep, that’s right – all the following items will go to only one winner here on Simple Organic.
But be sure to check out each of the other SLM blogs to see what their prize package giveaway includes; it’s a pretty exciting collection. Here’s what’s included in this fabulous prize package giveaway here on Simple Organic:
1. Laundry Tree
Laundry Tree is a great company that began with a quest for a gentle, natural, low-sudsing, affordable way to get clean clothes. They found that in Soapnuts, and decided that Soapnuts are so wonderful that they wanted everyone to know about them.
According to Laundry Tree’s website, “Soapnuts are the fruit of a tree (Sapindus Mukorossi), found primarily in the Himilayas, and they are an EXCELLENT alternative to traditional laundry detergents. They are simply harvested, de-seeded, and then dried in the sun. The outer shell of the soapnut contains saponin, a natural substance known for its ability to cleanse and wash.”
Laundry Tree believes in paying a fair and ethical wage to the farmers they work with, which I really appreciate and they also have a 100% risk-free money-back guarantee, good for up to eight weeks after purchase. I love that Laundry Tree offers a safe and natural way to clean laundry, while adhering to the highest standards for ethics in their business.
The winner will receive one (1) Deluxe Soapnut Kit.
2. Bummis Diapers
Bummis Diapers was started back in the 1980′s by three mothers around a kitchen table who decided to begin making the diapering products that they wanted but just couldn’t find. They have since outgrown that kitchen table and expanded to serve the needs of cloth-diapering mamas all over the world.
If you have ever wanted to try cloth diapers, the Organic Cotton Diaper Kit is a perfect way to begin. It includes 18 baby size (15+ lbs) prefold diapers, two Super Whisper Wraps and two Super Brites size medium, one large roll Bio-soft liners, five reusable stay dry liners, a fabulous wet bag, and a user guide. Everything you need to get started is right here.
This Organic Cotton Diaper Kit would also make a great gift for a mother-to-be. I love that the diapers in this kit are made of certified organic cotton, the most gentle diaper you could ask for.
The winner will receive one (1) Bummis Organic Cotton Diaper Kit.
3. The DivaCup

The DivaCup: This company was begun by a mother-daughter team who saw the need to offer a safe and environmentally-responsible alternative to tampons and sanitary pads. With a combined 38 years of experience in natural feminine hygiene, they have created a fabulous product that women can feel good about using.
A menstrual cup made of silicon, the DivaCup is a reusable, safe, frugal, and environmentally sound option. It is available in two sizes, and comes complete with detailed instructions.
You will love using the DivaCup – I have used it for two years and I will never switch back to the traditional options. The DivaCup also saves you money since it is a reusable option, as well as keeps tons of feminine hygiene products and packaging out of our landfills.
The winner will receive one (1) DivaCup in the size of your choice.
4. [Me] & Goji

[Me] & Goji is a custom artisanal cereal company based in New England. It was started by three friends who had a vision to revolutionize the cereal industry and save the environment at the same time. The cereal is hand-mixed, and with each purchase you have the option to contribute one dollar to offset the CO2 emissions from the creation and shipping of your cereal. That dollar is then invested in renewable energy projects.
Creating your own custom cereal on their website is both fun and simple. You choose your base, add items like nuts, seeds, fruits, and spices, and can even put your own picture on your package. They have gluten-free options, and pre-mixed combinations to choose from, as well. The cereal is shipped via Fed-Ex in an airtight cereal capsule that contains 50% more cereal than the average box at the grocery store.
I am currently loving the gluten-free base with almonds, blueberries, raspberries, coconut, and chia seeds. It’s a delicious way to start the morning, and knowing that [Me] & Goji is working hard to help restore the earth, well, that makes you feel pretty good when you’re eating it, too.
The winner will receive one (1) free custom cereal capsule from [Me] & Goji.
5. Amanda Blake Soule’s Books

For those unfamiliar with the work of Amanda Blake Soule, you are in for a treat. Amanda has been blogging for a number of years now, and in 2008 she released her first book, The Creative Family.
Offering myriad ideas for creating your own family traditions and memories, savoring the seasons, and inspiring your children to find their creativity, the book has become a wonderful resource for parents everywhere. In 2009, she released her second book, Handmade Home: Simple Ways to Repurpose Old Materials Into New Family Treasures. It was greeted with the same enthusiasm that her first book garnered, and together they have become favorites for families who want to create their own traditions and memories, in a creative and yet frugal fashion. These books are a terrific addition to any home library.
The winner will receive one (1) copy of The Creative Family and one (1) copy of Handmade Home.

My biggest challenged is being organized enough to implement the green actions in my home that I know are right!
My biggest green challenge is kid’s toys… we have mountains of them, and they’re all plastic.
I have blogged about this giveaway at http://tinyurl.com/ylkxn9f
I’ve subscribed in google reader!
I just subscribed to the newsletter!
My biggest challenge is income – as a stay at home mom it is sometimes difficult to afford organic and green products, even when that is where my heart is. There is little excess in our budget as it is, we are not fancy people. But that is one thing I had to give up when I decided to stay home, and sometimes that is tough.
I think my biggest challenge when it comes to green living is making it easy and convient for the whole family.

I don’t know enough about it. I want to make healthier food choices and compost.
My biggest challenge is where we live. We live far from everything so there is a lot of driving. I try to minimize trips, combine errands, and carpool as much as possible but is always a challenge.
Is this a dream?! Wow such a wonderful package. This giveaway is magical. L.
you are in my google reader!
Wow – what a terrific giveaway. I’ve wanted to try the Diva Cup for awhile but haven’t known anyone who has used it.
Right now we are working on our water consumption. My biggest hurdle is dishes so far. I have come up with a pretty good system for me but I’ve found that I am spending more time on dishes and too often I am re-washing because things are not completely clean. And then the kids – they tend to leave the water running when they do their place settings so we’re working on the balance of getting them to help in an easy way and not wasting at the same time. How much am I actually saving for the work of the new system?
Thanks again for the giveaway – I am very excited about this new offshoot of Simple Mom.
I subscribed this morning. Thank you again.
My biggest challenge is trusting which companies truly provide green products. So, many seem to just market themselves that way.
I’m so excited SLM has launched an organic blog–I’ve been following Simple Home for almost a year and always find it helpful, so I can’t wait to see what Simple Organic has to offer! As with a lot of other readers, our biggest challenge in going green IS the green–as in money. In our area, green consumerism carries a hefty price premium, and rebates/incentives from utilities or state/local government are virtually nonexistent. We’ve been able to sacrifice in a lot of areas to make room for some organic food, green home-improvement materials, etc., but we always wish we could do more!
I have two challenges . . . learning what alternatives are out there and how to get started using them, as well as trying to break my old habits (reaching for the paper towels, forgetting to bring my shopping bag, etc.)
I just subscribed to by email.
Thanks.

Money! Organic and earth friendly products are so much more expensive and I hate that I can let that discourage me from buying them.
I’ve described this blog and giveaway on my private blog: markandmegherring.blogspot.com

Our biggest challenge in being green is finding good resources for DIY cleaning products! A lot of information on the internet leans towards pricey”green” products and I would love to see more information on good alternative options for cleaning!

paper towels…I know there are better alternatives and I am trying to stock up on them but with a toddler and an infant…sometimes it is easier to grab a paper towel…I try to make myslef feel better by composting the used ones and using the tubes for “robot” crafts for my son.

Out of all our family’s green efforts, from using reusable everything to composting, the biggest challenge has been, and continues to be packaging. In order to really go green we’ve tried to eliminate almost all household waste through recycling and composting. Packaging such as tape, small plastic ties and medicine related packaging proves to be quite the challenge. Getting around these products can be very hard. Try to avoid it for a week and you’ll quickly become conscious of how much of that stuff we produce daily. While there are some facilities that will recycle at least some of this waste its not wildly available and especially not to those of us living in rural areas. The idea being as more families go green companies will begin to change the way they package their products – its already happening!
I already subscribe via Google Reader, so hopefully that counts too! : )
LOVE this new site!!
I’d most enjoy tips on things related to cost & money when it comes to organics; it’s always frustrating to *WANT* to buy organic, only to be disheartened when I see the price tag on some items.

My biggest challenge is decor- There is no good cheap options. I am working on it though.

My biggest challenge is getting my husband on board for every change I make. I can usually get him there, but it takes time!
My biggest green living challenge is making sure the entire household is on board. I find myself recovering things from the trash that should be recycled etc.

I think my biggest challenge to living green is sorting through the information on organic eating. When to spend the extra money and buy organic/grass-fed vs. when it doesn’t matter that much. Excited about this new blog!
Love this green stuff!

What a great blog! I am so excited to see this. One of our biggest challenges is just changing our mindset – getting into the habit of not reaching for what is our usual item at the grocery, not just throwing things in the trash – instead of recycling, looking into alternatives, working them into the budget – getting over the mindset of it being more expensive, while it isn’t really always more….
I love my divacup, and I would love to try soap nuts! Nice giveaway!
My biggest challenge is really quite pathetic. I struggle with laziness. Honestly, I have the very best of intentions, but sometimes I get overwhelmed or stressed out and just give up. I’ll throw out things that I intended to recycle or donate (see? I feel so guilty just writing this!) etc.
I am subscribed via reader too.
My biggest challenge to green living is the fear of giving up the convenience. I don’t have easy access to washer/dryers so that prohibits the cloth diapers and towels in the kitchen. I hope to remedy this though in the next few months…
