As a beach-lover, I’ve always been drawn to seashells. I love to collect them, edges softened from being tumbled in the surf, half hidden in the sand. Using shells is truly one of my favorite ways to bring the outside in.
I’m a casual shell collector, and my kids love to collect them as well, so I’ve found ways to fit them in around the house in a lot of spots. Next week, I’ll take you around my house to show you what I’ve done with mine. But in the meantime, I thought we’d get a little inspiration from others.
I hope you enjoy this bit of handmade seashell eye candy on a summery Friday!

So simple–not really much to make by hand– but isn’t anything cute in an aqua-colored mason jar?
Memory jars are such a creative way to preserve seashells and beach sand. I’ve also seen a cute one with a photo hanging inside the jar/terrarium.

I just love this rustic “flag” with starfish shells as the stars. The post I pinned is a step-by-step tutorial if you’d like to make one.

I adore shells as jewelry, especially something this lovely. It’s handcrafted from found seashells– look at all the beautiful textures.

This painted clam shell might be a little kitsch-y but it’s also really fun. It’d look cute on the wall in my kitchen in fact.
The seashell inspiration on Pinterest and Etsy alone is overwhelming. I don’t think I’m alone in finding the beauty and versatility in something that’s really just a cast-off, a remnant of creation.
Next Friday, I’ll show you some seashell craft/art/decor in real life, my life. For now, be inspired.
What’s your favorite part of the outdoors that you like to bring into the house or into your style?

We like to collect beach glass and put it into jars (I know, not exactly nature but still found in nature
)
I love beach glass, too.
Driftwood! I just love the smooth grain of driftwood. We are also collectors of sea glass, always seeking the rare bits of blue.

I just found a cool little piece of driftwood myself… for a project coming up!
I just got a 2 quart aqua colored mason jar at an antique store. Love the idea of shells in it for the summer.
We collect sand dollars and have created fun shadow boxes with them. This year I’m on to driftwood too.
Oh, I’d love a jar like that- they are so beautiful!
Have you read Gift from the Sea? Darcy at MessageinaMasonJar is hosting a summer book club on this novel by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Your shell-y post reminds me of this book! Love it!
I started it this summer actually after stumbling across Darcy’s blog.
I’ve had the book for years and have just never gotten around to reading it. But alas, I got behind because I’m reading too many other things this summer. One of these days!
