Sunday Links: Welcome to Summer!

Tomorrow is the official first day of summer, although for many of us, it’s been feeling like summer for a couple of months already. If you’ve been following the Natural Deodorant Challenge on the Simple Organic Facebook page, you already know that my relationship with Tom’s of Maine is coming to an end…although I guess we can still be fair weather friends.

For now, I need something stronger, so last night I whipped up a batch of homemade deodorant, courtesy of this recipe. Look for a report soon – we’ll see how it fares in the central Texas heat and humidity.

And of course, a very Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! We’re thankful for you.

Hey Katie! So, I’m reading and clicking through on the links in this post today, enjoying the great reads… and lo and behold I see MY blog name as the last link… well my eyes nearly bugged out of my head! I’m not a popular (or even regular!) blogger by any stretch, so to see someone else noticing what I wrote is a little weird, but way fun! Thanks for the link, it’s great to be a part of the community in that way :)

You’re welcome, Beth! It was a great article on a topic that I eventually want to tackle here on SO. I can’t remember how I found your blog – maybe through commenting here? – but you have some good content for sure…thanks for letting me link up! :)

I LOVE Tom’s of Maine (Honeysuckle is my fav!), but have the same problem with its not working in the heat of Arkansas summer. I found a locally made natural deodorant at our farmers’ market this month though that is working great. They have a website, maisonterre.net, but I don’t know if it’s available to buy online.

Also LOVE how it smells.

Katie, Thank you for the link to my hand washing the dishes post. we are currently on the road, camping right now for a week of vacation (stopping for wi-fi once a day) and doing the dishes is even easier than at home! 2 pots, one bowl/cup (works as both) for each person and one utensil. Talk about simple.

Hello Everyone,

I am the maker of Maison Terre. I am so pleased that someone has discovered one of my products and likes it well enough to mention it here. The deodorants are Lemongrass, Expedition (tea tree) and Lavender. All are available online from the e-store. We just created an al-natural line of candles, which are available on line and at the Little Rock Whole Foods store on Rodney Parham. I hope this will be the beginning of a long relationship with Whole Foods. Perhaps you will soon see the deodrants there as well.

Thank You,
Sarah Brown

I’m giving it a try. I put some in an empty deodorant container and it doesn’t spread very well. So, I just use my fingers and rub in. Seems to be working well. I added orange oil which gives it a nice citrus fragrance.
